Aretha vs Dusty - nice... without listening, i think i'd lean towards Aretha. I'll get back to you and tell you who I think came out on top through your compilation.
It's kind of hard to bet against the Queen of Soul, but I did give Aretha a handicap by staying away from her big hits. And I did include Dusty's knockout version of Tupelo Honey....

IMO Dusty definitely has soul, but Aretha IS soul...
Aretha really is soul, as you put it, but I would give Dusty the tiniest edge just as a singer.
