It's kinda hard to believe that it's been 20 years since Kelly Willis' first album came out. I always thought she'd become a bigger star, but maybe that cliche "too country for rock, too rock for country" really did hinder her career. But I'd rather not dwell, so here's a great little homage to Ms. Willis put together by blog readers Al (the A sides) and Jerald (the B sides). Though I did pick out the picture. :)

Hi, Always nice to hear some Kelly Willis. Congrats to the good choices.
Thanks very much! I had a flawed MP3 of "Absentee Rag" many years ago and I always wanted an upgrade.
@ bostig and scberry,
I agree - Al and Jerald did a really top notch job. And I think Absentee Rag is the best thing on that 8 1/2 Souvenirs album (their first one is much better.)
Finally, the demands of the people have been answered! Thanks Al and Jerald. Now, how about some Cheri Knight?
Well, there is a little Cheri Knight in the newest post.....
thanx!
these are absolute gems! thank u so much
@anonymous:
I'm glad to do it (even if Al and Jerald did this one. :)
Ditto on Kelly. I had one or two of her CD's that got lost in a purge and wouldn't mind getting reacquainted. Thanks for the opportunity.
This Kelly Willis comp is amazing.
Muchisima Gracias !!
Great compilations.
Can't work out the source of the version of "Your Cheatin Heart" on the B-sides. Does anybody know?
Thanks
MICHAEL
@anonymous,
It was on a cd called Early Tracks, though I forgot how I got it. :)
was just looking back at this and noticed the question about "Your Cheatin' Heart". If memory serves that was on a cd which came with a book by Billy Poore who recorded some tracks with a very young Kelly back in the DC/Virgina area. I think... Jerald
I believe "Your Cheatin Heart" is from Kelly's first band Kelly and the Fireballs. As someone pointed out earlier, her first band was based in Virginia. Soon after this recording she moved to Austin and the band broke up. She then formed another band Radio Ranch that backs her on the first album.
The "B Sides" looks like it's been deleted for Kelly Willis. Can you kindly re-up those so that this collection is complete? Thanks so much!
Mike,
I just put it back up. Enjoy!
Ish
