Up on the Lowedown

So what's the most impressive aspect of Nick Lowe's career - the songs, the consistent track record, his late career "Brentsford Trilogy" albums (The Impossible Bird, Dig My Mood, and The Convincer), or his work as a producer (Elvis Costello, The Pretenders, The Damned, Graham Parker, Carlene Carter, etc)? While you ponder the question, here's a couple of Nick Lowe mixtapes to enjoy.

I never listened to Lowe, apart from a Rockpile tune on "Concert for the People of Kampuchea" (one of my first LP's, incidentally.. also my first exposure to non Combat Rock CLASH)..

so thanks for this mix!! It'll serve as a good primer!! Going straight to the nano!

Glad folks like it - really can't go wrong with any of Nick's stuff. I'll probably post a couple more mixes at some point.

@anonymous - Don't know all the details about Syd Straw, but it seems like she never got 1-2 key breaks that would have led to bigger success. But she has performed with a lot of people and has also done some commercial work (the name of the big one she did eludes me.) Plus she sings Que Sera at the beginning of the movie Heathers.

These mixes are great companion pieces to the legit double CD "best of" that was just released. Yours covers the (mostly) less known songs in Nick's canon. Thanks!
