Election and Traveller soundtracks

I admit I've got a pretty bad track record of predicting which artists are going to make it.  In retrospect, I understand why some of the artists I thought would hit big didn't do so.  The one, however, that still  puzzles me is Mandy Barnett. Given her voice, the enduring popularity of Patsy Cline (whom Barnett sounds a lot like), her magnificent 1999 sophomore album I've Got a Right to Cry, and Sire's, her record label at the time, commitment to her.  She's only released a few albums since then, though I think she still plays Patsy Cline sometimes in Alway, the play about Patsy Cline's life.  She does, however, as I just discovered, have a track on the new Eddy Arnold tribute album - You Don't Know Me that just came out on Tuesday (so I haven't heard it yet.)  Back in the late 1990s, she also appeared on two soundtracks - Election and Traveller.  The soundtracks are a little hit or miss, but Mandy's contributions are definite highlights.   Since they're out of print, I thought I would post them tonight.

I haven't heard Mandy Barnett yet, but I think the public just interested in that kind of sound. I was enthusiastic about two similar artists - kd lang and Madeleine Peyroux. Each got some initial press and then faded away.

Audiences don't require their favorites to be able to sing, or we wouldn't have so many obvious auto-tuned performers. It seems that if you have a decent voice then you're required to do all sorts of arpeggios and gimmicky vocal tricks like Whitney Houston and Celine Dion.

We all have our unheralded favorites and if you wait long enough, one of them will get some deserved attentipon. All you can hope for is that they don't sell out everything you like about them in order to get some visibility.
